Hello Kitty Cake Pops

Well one last Hello Kitty post here.  Again more inspiration from the wonderful Bakerella.  These were so fun to make because they are just so cute…Hello Kitty is just … so … cute!

I made up 40 of these for the party.  And most turned out just right…

But one… one was a little “different”…

But she was so cute as well 🙂  And check out the great cake pop stand my husband whipped up for me!  And we can change out the ribbon for different needs.  He found some Hello Kitty ribbon at Walmart – perfect!

Hello Kitty in Black & Pink

And now for more Hello Kitty!  This creation was to finish off our birthday weekend celebrating with family.

First I have to make a comment – don’t mind the cake plate!  We got it cheap from a local store at the end of the Valentine’s day stuff.  The original cake design we had planned to do would have matched it a little better.  But then Emily and I ended up going another direction and I decided to just use it anyway as it made a great serving platter.

Anyway – that said… Emily laid out the design for this one.  After seeing a few pics online, she knew she wanted a 3D head on top.  The head is made of rice krispie treats.  I’m making up a basic tutorial on making rice krispies for this purpose and how to create a shape with them to use like this.   This kitty is covered in white chocolate melts.  She has an M&M nose, gumpaste bow and I used a food marker for the eyes and whiskers.

The cakes themselves are 6″ and 8″.  The top cake is white with mini chocolate chips and a chocolate pudding filling.  The bottom is a chocolate cake with an oreo filling.  All at the birthday girl’s request. 🙂

A Hello Kitty with Emily

So here’s part 1 of the Hello Kitty birthday weekend!  Friday night my daughter had her friends over for a sleepover party.  I picked up this Hello Kitty Wilton pan and Emily and I decorated it together.  Actually she did a good part of it.  I blobbed the icing on and she went to work smoothing it.  I showed her how to do the sides and then she went to town and did a fantastic job getting them really smooth.  I showed her the technique for the top and again she went at it.

I was impressed!  Then we took our magic smoother to it and ta-da!  Hello Kitty.  We then used the chocolate candy melts to make the bow, eyes and mouth using the cleaned cake pan.  Its a super easy technique that’s great for this type of thing.  Just use your cleaned metal pan.  Pour some melted chocolate candy melts into the spot you want to mold.  Tap the pan on the counter to get rid of air bubbles then pop it in the fridge for about 10 min.  It will easily pop out again.  Instant bow 🙂

Then she spent about 15 min practicing how to write to “sign” her name on the side of the board.  I think she did great.  She was beat after this and wanted me to write Happy Birthday though 🙂

So here it is – the cake that Emily made ….

Over the Rainbow Cupcakes

My oldest daughter turns 9 today.  And like most girls her age, she loves rainbows.  We went over a variety of possibilities for her cupcakes that she would take to school.  Her actual b-day party is Hello Kitty themed but she wanted something different to take to school.  She decided on this.

But of course we had to take it to the next level 🙂

Rainbow Cupcakes Inside

With beautiful rainbows INSIDE and OUT of course!  Look for a tutorial on how to make these beautifully colored cupcakes coming next week. [EDIT:   Tutorial is here! ]   But for now enjoy the OUTSIDE of them too…

Fancy Nancy

This fancy cake was made for my niece turning 6…and she loves Fancy Nancy and all things fancy herself.  This is a 6″ round cake with buttercream icing.  Fondant bow and “ribbon”.  The crown & glasses are gumpaste and the necklace is made of sugar pearls.

Lego #1

This lego cake was made for a little guy turning 6.  They wanted a #6 from legos and also (to quote him)  “a structure” 🙂  So this is the result – all the blocks were put on individually and made of fondant.

Spiderman & Friends

This cake was done for twin boys who love Spiderman & Friends.  The main cake is a tiered 6″ square on a 8″ round.  The square cake made the clubhouse and is fondant covered.  The bottom layer has 3 characters (Spiderman, Iron Man and The Hulk) made out of royal icing.  The 2 individual cakes are 4″ cakes – one for each boy 🙂
