Back in June of 2007 I was asked to make a bridal shower cake for my wonderful cousin, Aly. This cake pic has had a home at the top of the blog since day 1 and I get SO many comments on that cake. Well now 3 yrs later we are celebrating the soon to be born baby to this wonderful couple! 🙂 So of course I was excited to do the baby shower cake! I went off of the party ware they had purchased ~ see a pic below to compare 🙂 Cake is all buttercream except the birds and nest, which are gumpaste.

Such a cute cake! I loved how you made the nest!
How did you make the nest?
I’m trying to remember what exactly I did since that was awhile ago 😉 I know that I used gumpaste and a clay extruder to make the thin pieces. I then overlapped them over either a small bowl or a small balloon that I had greased with a little shortening. I think I did the balloon for this one. I’ve done similar things over a bowl though as well. Then you basically let it dry and pop it off to finish drying.
