Its normally around January that I feel about done with winter – its not so much the snow that I mind, but the C-O-L-D.  You’d think after all these years I’d move a bit south…but I do love it here!  So instead I bundle up and enjoy the snowy view out my windows.  …  AND drink lots of coffee (or hot chocolate if that’s your thing!).  Coffee makes everything better. 🙂  So does cake (and cake goes good with coffee!) – so here is the January work cake – an 8″-10″ tiered cake with a cake mug of hot chocolate (complete with “marshmallows”) on top.  Stay warm!

Let it snow…

Its a snowy, snowy day here, so I figured I’d better catch up on a few cake posts.  This cake is actually from Dec for my husband’s work.  Mr. Snowman is made from an 8″ and 10″ cake, iced with a fondant scarf.

Winter Lamb

Posted by on Dec 19, 2008 in Baby, Birthday, Gumpaste Figures & Flowers, Kid Themed, My Cakes

This was a 1st birthday cake – winter themed.  The lamb was requested because the little girls nick name involves the word Lamb 🙂  I had so much fun sculpting these little lambs out of fondant.   All I could think about as I made them was that saying “Mares eat oats and does eat oats, but little lambs eat ivy.  A kid’ll eat ivy too, wouldn’t you?”  When I was a kid we went camping in northern WI (Hayward) and they had a few animals at the camp ground – one of them a lamb called Lambsydivy (not sure how they spelled it though!)…  Lambsydivy = lambs eat ivy 😉   For some reason I’ve never forgotten about that lamb.

But enough about my lamb filled childhood 🙂  – we need the rest of the cake details!  There are 2 cakes, sizes 8″ and 10″.  Both pink butter cream icing with royal icing snowflakes I piped out, then painted with a pearl luster dust when dry. Below the cake pics are a few close ups of one of the lambs.

Snowflake Cupcakes

Posted by on Dec 15, 2008 in Cupcakes, Holiday, My Cakes

Tonight is my 4 yr old daughter’s Christmas program for school.  I signed up to bring a sweet treat of course 😉  I love working with the blues of winter and snowflakes.  So here are some blue iced cupcakes with some Wilton crystal sprinkles for “snow” and royal icing snowflakes that I piped.  Boy were they fragile! I’m glad I made extra.  But the delicate look of them is just what I wanted… Click the image to see a larger view.
