While polka dots don’t make it into the clothes I wear, I just love them for cakes! They are so festive and fun! This time I decided to do an ombre gradient of color using 3 different shades of each color. The star on top is also a gradient (which you can see in the 2nd picture below). This cake is an 8″ & 10″.
Tonight my husband and 2 daughters are off to a father/daughter dance at the school. This is their 3rd year going and they have such a great time. It is run by their Girl Scout troops. This year, their leaders asked me to make a center piece cake for the event. The theme? One Starry Knight…they wanted a sheet cake but a castle with pink and purple. Fun!
This cake is a 2 layer 12×18 cake in buttercream icing. I put a 6″ round cake on that and used some of Wilton’s castle set pieces to finish it off along with lots of small fondant flowers. The walkway is fondant and made with a impression mat I have. I hope all of the girls tonight love it!
And a few closeups…
So I made that elephant cake last week and now this week I got to make some fondant dogs! I love making these little creatures. They can be time consuming but they are so fun and so cute. This 10″ cake was for a girl who likes dogs and purple! Everything is buttercream except for the dogs, which are fondant.
And here is a close up of the puppies…
This is the other 1st Communion cake I made last week. Also in purples with a cascade of flowers. Cakes are 6″ and 8″. All items are edible.
This was the first of two 1st Communion cakes I made last week. This one is a replica of one I made last year – only in purple this time. Cakes are 6″ and 8″ and everything is edible!
Its February! And of course this means that Valentine’s and hearts are on the mind. Dave’s work cake often falls right around Valentine’s day so I tend to make something “love” themed. Last year was the ganache truffle heart cake (which got rave reviews!). This year I decided to do some “candy” conversation hearts.
Each of these heart cakes is a 9″ heart – and about 5″ tall! They got pretty big. The pink heart is chocolate cake with an oreo filling (yum!) and the purple cake is marble with a strawberry jam filling. And surrounding all of them are lots of candy melt hearts. I made them in a new Make’n Mold heart mold I picked up at Hobby Lobby.
♥ Happy Valentine’s Day! ♥
This cake was for my husband’s work for October birthdays. Buttercream icing, gumpaste accents and a fondant covered ghost cake on top.
My youngest daughter is celebrating her 5th birthday tomorrow! She loves purple and she loves horses and she loves littlest pet shop toys! We’ll be having a small party with family in a week but we wanted a little cake to celebrate her actual birthday. This is a buttercream iced cake with fondant flowers and pet shop cut out.
Its mid June … so time for the next work birthday cake for my hubby… I confess I spaced out that it was THIS week until he reminded me on Tue! Oooops! But I planned out the idea (based on another cake I had seen and loved) in an hour and started baking the next day. The actual decorating flew by faster than I thought it would. And the result is as fun as I hoped! This 3 tier cake is made up of 4″, 6″ & 8″ cakes, fondant covered and the accents out the top are gumpaste.
Tomorrow my 4 yr old is celebrating her “pretend” birthday at school since her bday falls over the summer months. So of course when I asked her what kind of cupcakes she wanted she said “Horse!” So surprised That girl loves horses! And chocolate cupcakes…AND her fav color is purple.
The horses are piped with royal icing, fondant flowers and buttercream icing.
