A Pumpkin Princess

My niece turned 3 this weekend and the theme was pumpkin princess! She likes all things sparkly and pink. 🙂 This cake is a 10″ round with a pumpkin cake on top. The pumpkin was carved out of the wilton ball pan and covered in fondant. The crown is gumpaste with a hard candy jewel on it.

A Castle for a Princess

Posted by on Apr 30, 2011 in 3D Cakes, Birthday, Kid Themed, My Cakes

As I started in on this cake yesterday it suddenly occurred to me that I was creating a castle cake on the same day as the royal wedding!  Go figure 🙂   This cake was made for a little princess turning 5.  It was a replica of the castle on the invite (see below).  This cake started out as a 12×18 sheet cake that I cut to size.  Then it is fondant covered.  The flags are made with a fondant/gumpaste blend to help them stay waving. 🙂

And here is the pic from the invite:

Castle Cupcakes

Posted by on Feb 25, 2008 in Cupcakes, Gumpaste Figures & Flowers, Kid Themed, My Cakes

These castle cupcakes I made for my daughter to take to school for her bday.  I had found this idea online along with another idea (princess crowns).  I let her pick thinking that won’t take too long.  Ok…well lesson learned 😉  I spent a good 4 hrs on the castles alone.  Fortunately the baking and icing/glitter part was super quick. 🙂  But she loves them (other than thinking that the castles were going to be really big cause of the pic I had shown her).  They are dusted in a pearl dust so they shimmer.  I had to make 24 of them to take.  Whew…I’m tired of that now 🙂  But they did turn out cute.   I wish the pic could show the details and shimmer better…I need to make that light box!

This is my first royal icing crown – well I should take it back – my second as the first one I did shattered on me during “dusting” :S  But This one came off with only one minor breakage and I’m just letting it sit another couple days before handling it anymore!  Let it get good and hard.  This is for on a cupcake cake I’ll be making for Sat for my daughter’s birthday party with her friends.  So hopefully it can survive until then! 🙂

The crown is made with pink royal icing and has 3 layers of design on top of each other for stability.  Then once dried I painted it with a pearl luster dust to give it a shimmer.
