Spring Flowers

Posted by Steph on Apr 27, 2013 in Birthday, Gumpaste Figures & Flowers, My Cakes

We’ve been (im)patiently waiting for spring to appear here.  I’m ready for the cold weather to be done and the warm to stay.  I’m ready for spring flowers!!  So it was fun to work on a spring-y cake like this.  This is a 12″ round cake with lots of fondant/gumpaste flowers – and cupcakes too! 🙂

Thin Mint Cupcakes

Posted by Steph on Apr 26, 2013 in Cupcakes, My Cakes

My daughter had treat duty for her Girl Scout meeting in March and she wanted to celebrate the end of Girl Scout cookie sales with a cookie themed cupcake.  We made up chocolate cupcakes with green icing (not minty only because we didn’t know if all the girls liked mint), and a thin mint cookie stuck in top.  They were a big hit!

Daisy Wedding Cupcakes

These 100+ cupcakes were made for the daughter of a friend.  I love these bright, cheerful colors!  The daisies are gumpaste.  The cake is a 6″ cutting cake.  For flavors on these we did white cupcakes with cookie & cream filling (6″ cake was also this flavor), chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter filling, and banana chocolate chip cupcakes with banana cream filling.

Baby Shower Yummies!

Posted by on Jul 31, 2012 in Baby, Cupcakes, Gumpaste Figures & Flowers, My Cakes

This cake was for a baby shower ~ the mom-to-be wanted a main decorative cake plus yummy cupcakes on the side.

This cake was an 8″ & 12″.  Buttercream with fondant accents.  The bow and shoes are fondant/gumpaste blends. I did a similar cake in the past that she loved but instead of a fondant elephant like that one had, she wanted the little girly baby shoes.

The cupcakes were yummy flavors ~ raspberry cupcakes with white chocolate icing, chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting & chopped pb cups, lemon cupcakes with lemon icing, and [not pictured] strawberry cupcakes with cream cheese icing and a strawberry on top!

Think Spring!  Pastels and flowers… I made these cupcakes for the reception after my daughter’s ballet demonstration in April.  Pretty cupcakes for some pretty ballerinas!

Christmas Gifts

Posted by on Jan 19, 2012 in Holiday, My Cakes

Yes – that says CHRISTMAS.  I was editing some pics of cakes I’ve done this week and I ran across 2 cakes from mid/end Dec that I had forgotten to post!  So here’s one…better late than never!

This was the December work cake for my husband’s work.  It is a 6″ square on a 10″ square, iced in BC and fondant ribbons, bow and holly.

Merry (late) Christmas! 😉

Daisies!

Posted by on Jun 16, 2011 in Birthday, Cupcakes, My Cakes

I’m a little behind on my blogging here.  I’m catching up today.   This cake was done for last Saturday.  Consisted of the main cake and 12 dozen cupcakes!  The main cake is a 10″ round cake with a giant cupcake cake on top.  The cupcake “liner” is made from candy melts.  The cupcakes are a pretty basic swirl but some had gumpaste daisies on them.  I love daisies – they are a simple and cute flower and so fun.

I picked up a new daisy center maker from Global Sugar Art just for this purpose. In the past I’ve just made a smashed ball basically for the center.  I love how this tool makes a nice shape & size – and imprints the design on the center as well.  It comes with 6 different sizes too:

So here are the cupcakes and cake!

St. Patricks Day

Posted by on Mar 17, 2011 in Holiday, My Cakes

It is hard to believe that the middle of March is here again.  It seems like I was JUST posting February’s work cake – and now here is March’s cake!

Since the meeting/party is this week I went with a St. Patty’s theme – much like I did 2 yrs ago. This time around I decided to use the fun of those rainbow cupcakes and make a rainbow cake!  I did it with a similar method that I made the rainbow cupcakes, but instead I spread it over 2 pans worth and this time I actually spread out the batter vs. heaping it in the middle.  I’m pretty pleased with the results! (see inside pic below!)

So this month we have a 10″ cake (the rainbow cake) and a 3 layer tall 8″ cake for the leprechaun’s hat on top of it.  Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

And a closeup of the “pot ‘o gold”…

And the inside of the rainbow cake…yes I cut this cake in half before I decorated it 🙂  I told my husband of my intentions and he said “they don’t care – as long as they can eat cake”  ha!  But I had to get a pic of how it turned out!

The replica

A friend loved the cake at the top of the blog (brown/green one with the calla lilies) but wanted it in colors to match their party ware.  So this is what we did 🙂

A Green & Brown Giant Cupcake

Posted by on Aug 27, 2009 in 3D Cakes, Birthday, Cupcakes, My Cakes

Here’s another big cupcake for you all to enjoy…this time in green and brown.  The “liner” on the cupcake is a chocolate shell – yum!  The base cake is a 10″ round…this time chocolate cake with chocolate ganache 😉  Boy were Dave’s co workers lucky this month! 🙂
