Long time no cake. Yeah I haven’t been doing as many lately. But a friend called and wanted something The Hive themed for her daughter’s 2nd birthday – how can I say no? She also requested 50 little sugar bees to use on pancake stacks. I had extra so I decided to implement them in the cake as well. The bees on top are fondant, those little bees are royal icing and the rest of the cake is buttercream. This one is an 8″ & 10″.
These cupcakes were for my husband’s work in May. Just some fun flavors and colors
I can’t believe summer has flown by. The other day as I was making up some cupcakes I was thinking about how I hadn’t posted a pic of the work cake I did for my husband’s work for August yet. So today I was editing & resizing pics for the blog and realized there are SEVEN cakes I never posted (starting back in May)! I guess the summer got away from me!
That said, here’s the first one for today: A lawnmower, 40th birthday sheet cake! This one had the specific request for a guy mowing lawn, beer can in hand, with butt crack showing. Yep, you read that right. My two girls giggled like crazy when they saw this guy on the cake.
We’ve been (im)patiently waiting for spring to appear here. I’m ready for the cold weather to be done and the warm to stay. I’m ready for spring flowers!! So it was fun to work on a spring-y cake like this. This is a 12″ round cake with lots of fondant/gumpaste flowers – and cupcakes too!
A friend approached me to make her son’s 2nd birthday cake – Nemo themed! So fun! I loved making these cute fondant characters to go on top. I think the “mine” seagull was my favorite character to do. The main cake is a 6″/10″ and the small cake (for the b-day boy) is a 6″ one as well.
My niece turned 3 this weekend and the theme was pumpkin princess! She likes all things sparkly and pink. This cake is a 10″ round with a pumpkin cake on top. The pumpkin was carved out of the wilton ball pan and covered in fondant. The crown is gumpaste with a hard candy jewel on it.
These 100+ cupcakes were made for the daughter of a friend. I love these bright, cheerful colors! The daisies are gumpaste. The cake is a 6″ cutting cake. For flavors on these we did white cupcakes with cookie & cream filling (6″ cake was also this flavor), chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter filling, and banana chocolate chip cupcakes with banana cream filling.
This cake was for a baby shower ~ the mom-to-be wanted a main decorative cake plus yummy cupcakes on the side.
This cake was an 8″ & 12″. Buttercream with fondant accents. The bow and shoes are fondant/gumpaste blends. I did a similar cake in the past that she loved but instead of a fondant elephant like that one had, she wanted the little girly baby shoes.
The cupcakes were yummy flavors ~ raspberry cupcakes with white chocolate icing, chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting & chopped pb cups, lemon cupcakes with lemon icing, and [not pictured] strawberry cupcakes with cream cheese icing and a strawberry on top!
There were actually 2 of these soccer cakes – but I only took a pic of one as they were identical except for opposite colors for the soccer players. The players are fondant. The nets are plastic (from the Wilton set). The cake is 11×15 in size, one layer. The rest is buttercream!
Well its time again for the monthly birthday cake for my husband’s work. Since May is his [and mine too] birthday month, we brainstormed for a fun idea he’d like. We came up with Shaun the Sheep ~ based on a tv show our whole family loves. I have to say my favorite side is the stacked up sheep. What was most fun was drawing their pupils. Its amazing how the placement of these black dots can completely change the expression of a figure.
Tower of sheep! I love the middle bottom one with his crossed eyes.
Timmy flying away with balloons…
And of course, Shaun! I would have loved to make a stand up figure of him, but
we thought of the idea at the last minute and its been a busy week!
